Water Levels Continue to Rise, and So Do Questions about Electric Island

Lake Ontario Water Levels Leave Festival Goers Asking Questions

You might want to think about renting a canoe for the Victoria Day long weekend. As the first Electric Island of 2017 approaches in less than one week, water levels continue to rise well after the 70 mm of rain that was dumped on Southern Ontario last week finally ceased. CBC reported that even though the rain has stopped, the water levels will continue to rise within the next couple of weeks due to the uphill streams and rivers that connect to Lake Ontario, dumping all the excess water into the lake long after the rain has stopped. Currently the city of Toronto has cancelled all Ferries to Toronto Island until further notice while dealing with the rising water levels. The city also announced “All Toronto Island permits have been cancelled from May 7th to May 19th.” With Electric Island scheduled for May 22nd, it is possible the event could get cancelled as well.

Fans have taken to Electric Island‘s instagram to voice their concerns:

While fans are left in the dark, it appears we will have to play the waiting game as the first Electric Island of 2017 gets closer and closer. No comments about a possible venue change or cancellation have been made yet from Electric Island, but it is possible to have a backup venue for the event instead of resorting to cancelling. On May 15th The Budweiser Stage had moved their show for the “Nobody Safe Tour” featuring artists Future, Migos, Tory Lanez, Zoey Dollaz and A$AP Ferg to the Air Canada Centre in order to accommodate the crowd due to the rising water levels. It’s very likely Electric Island is working on a backup plan before making any big announcements. Although the only venue that comes to mind that can host that large of a crowd with multiple stages is Rebel. And so the waiting game continues. One thing is for sure though; if you rent a kayak, at least you won’t have to worry about the long lines for the ferry.
